A Moment to Reflect is operated by A Moment To LLC, doing business as A Moment to Reflect, based in Chicago, Illinois, United States (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This page explains how information is used when you create an account, write a reflection, subscribe, or contact us. Privacy questions can be sent to privacy@amomenttoreflect.com.
Information we collect: account information (your account identifier, verified email address, and sign-in method), reflection content (your request, selected tone and length, and the generated reflection and audio), saved reflections, private notes and revisited labels you add to saved reflections, billing records (Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, plan, status, and payment dates), report and support messages, reflection reminder settings and, for text reminders, your mobile number and consent record, first-party usage statistics, preferences stored in your browser, and network and device information, such as IP address and browser type, that Cloudflare and Clerk process when you connect.
What you choose to share
We store your own writing when you choose Save. We process your writing and the selected philosophical idea to generate an AI mirror only when you choose that optional feature. Requests may reveal sensitive personal information, including beliefs, health concerns, or relationships. Share only what you are comfortable having processed for this purpose, and avoid unnecessary identifying details about other people. When you request an optional AI mirror after seeing its notice, you consent to our use of that writing, including sensitive details you include, and to sending it to OpenAI for screening and generation. Saving your own writing by itself does not provide that AI processing.
Your own writing stays in page memory until you choose to save it. Saving stores your words, title, selected philosophical idea and prompt in your private collection and does not send them to OpenAI. An optional AI mirror sends your writing and the selected idea to OpenAI for immediate-danger screening and generation with response storage turned off. You may save that mirror alongside your original writing. Unsaved writing and unsaved mirrors can be lost when you leave or reload the page. If you choose to sign in while drafting, this tab temporarily keeps the draft in session storage to restore it after sign-in, then removes it. Closing the tab removes that temporary storage.
To reduce repetitive writing, we remember identifiers for up to six recently used writing approaches on your account. This record contains no reflection requests or reflection text and is removed after 30 days without an update.
Your account and saved collection
We use first-party usage statistics to understand visits, account creation, successful reflections and paid memberships. A random, 30-minute session cookie helps count visits and connect campaign tags to a new account. Visit tracking respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. These analytics do not collect reflection content, email addresses, IP addresses, full URLs or session recordings, and are not sent to a separate analytics provider. Detailed visit and reflection-event records are retained for 90 days, then removed by scheduled maintenance. Basic first-use and paid-activation timestamps remain with your account so repeat activity is not counted as a new conversion.
We use your account identifier, verified email address and authentication information to sign you in, keep your collection private, and connect your subscription. Saved reflections, titles, philosophical idea and prompt references, optional AI mirrors, notes and revisited labels remain in your collection until you delete them or request account deletion. A note you add to a saved reflection is stored with your collection, is not sent to OpenAI, and is not read aloud. Downgrading locks access to paid collection features, including notes, and does not erase the collection.
Audio is prepared for the current reflection and held in your browser for replay or download; this app does not keep an audio library with saved reflections. A downloaded file remains on your device under your control.
When you agree to our Terms, we record your account identifier, the policy version, and the time of agreement. We keep this record for as long as your account exists and for at least three years after you accept, or one year after your account or subscription ends, whichever is later, to show what you agreed to and to meet legal obligations. Your age confirmation is self-reported; we do not independently verify your age.
Services that help us run the app
Cloudflare: website hosting, database storage, network security, backups, delivery of support reports, and sending account, billing, and reminder emails.
Clerk: account registration, sign-in, verification and account recovery. If you sign in with Google, Google also processes that sign-in and may share your name, email address, and profile image with Clerk.
OpenAI (text): philosophical reflection writing. Your request, selected tone and length, and the related reflection text are sent for these features.
OpenAI (audio): spoken audio for a new reflection when you use listening features. The reflection text is sent, and the audio returns to your browser.
Stripe: payment processing and subscription management. We receive billing identifiers and subscription status; we do not store your complete card number.
Google Workspace: support and privacy correspondence, including reports you send us.
For text, we send requests with OpenAI’s response storage setting turned off, so responses are not kept as retrievable API history. OpenAI may still keep API inputs and outputs, including reflection text sent for audio, for up to 30 days to detect abuse, and longer where the law requires it. OpenAI states that it does not use API data to train its models by default. These are OpenAI’s practices, and they may change under OpenAI’s policies.
Reports and support conversations
A reflection report includes the issue category, your optional note, verified reply email, and reference identifiers. The title, reflection words are included only if you select the checkbox. Your original request is not automatically included. The app retains delivery metadata, rather than report text, and removes metadata older than 30 days when another report is submitted. If no new report is submitted, older metadata remains until the next report.
Support emails remain in our mailbox while needed to answer questions, investigate issues, maintain necessary records, or meet legal requirements. We do not publish your reflections or support messages. We may disclose information when required by law or when necessary to protect people, accounts, or the service.
Cookies and browser preferences
Authentication and security services use cookies or similar storage to keep you signed in and protect the app. The first-party visit cookie described above supports basic usage and campaign statistics. Your browser also remembers preferences such as text size, eligible colors, tone, length and your chosen audio settings. Clearing browser storage resets those preferences. We do not run third-party advertising pixels, sell personal information, or share it for targeted advertising. If that changes, we will update this policy and ask for any consent the law requires before the change.
Your choices and requests
You can update account information in My account, manage your subscription through Stripe, and remove saved items when collection access is available. For access, correction, export or deletion requests, email privacy@amomenttoreflect.com from your account address. We may verify ownership before acting. We will respond within 45 days, and we will tell you within that period if we need up to 45 more days. Contact support if you cannot sign in or your collection is locked.
Some records may need to remain for security, payment disputes, legal obligations, or backup recovery. After a deletion, data is removed from our active database promptly and from Cloudflare’s database recovery history when that history expires, which takes up to 30 days. After you delete your account, we keep only these records, each for the period stated in this policy or in our Billing & refunds policy: your Terms acceptance record, your subscription agreement and the acknowledgment and price-change notices we sent you, your text consent and verification records, opt-out records, and the history of your email reminder choices. We store them apart from active accounts, limit who can see them, and use them only to show what you agreed to, resolve disputes, honor opt-outs, and meet legal obligations. We will explain applicable exceptions when responding. We use access controls and other safeguards, but no online service can promise absolute security. If a security breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as the law requires. Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries.
Children and changes
A Moment to Reflect is intended for adults age 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will close the account and delete that information. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information. We will post any update here with a new date. For a material change, we will email you at least 14 days before it takes effect, and we will not use information we already hold in a materially different way without your consent.
If the service is transferred to a business entity under common ownership or control with us, your information will transfer with it, the successor must follow this policy, and we will notify you at least 14 days before the transfer.
Washington and Nevada residents can read how we handle consumer health data in our separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy, which is linked in the footer of every page.
Reflection reminders
If you save a reminder schedule or turn on reminders, we collect your reminder settings (email, text, or both, plus days, times, and time zone). For text reminders, we also collect your mobile phone number, the result of the one-time code check, and a consent record showing the mobile number, the consent wording you saw, the time you agreed, and your account identifier. For every reminder, we keep delivery records such as the send time, the channel, and whether it was delivered or the number opted out.
Twilio verifies your mobile number and delivers text reminders. It receives your mobile number, the one-time code, and the reminder text, and it processes STOP and HELP replies. Cloudflare sends reminder emails, as well as account and billing emails such as your subscription acknowledgment, payment notices, and plan-change notices, and stores reminder settings, contact details, consent records, and delivery records in our database.
We do not sell or share your mobile number or text consent with anyone for their marketing. We use your number only to verify it and to send the reminders you request.
If you pause reminders, we keep your settings and mobile number so you can resume. If you turn off and remove reminders or delete your account, we stop sending reminders and delete your reminder settings and mobile number, except the records described below.
We keep your text consent record, the record of your number verification, and the record of each text we sent or tried to send for four years after the most recent text we tried to send to your number, or four years after you gave consent if we never sent one, so we can show that you asked for the texts. If you reply STOP, we keep a one-way coded version of the number on a do-not-text list so we do not text it again unless you opt in again.
We keep reminder delivery records and the history of account and billing emails for 90 days and then remove them by scheduled maintenance. The record of your subscription acknowledgment and any price-change notice stays with your billing agreement record for the period stated in our Billing & refunds policy. We keep the history of your email reminder choices, including when you turned email reminders on and when you unsubscribed, while your account exists and for four years after it closes.
Reminder emails are part of the service you ask for and contain no advertising. If that ever changes, we will give you a way to opt out of promotional email that is separate from reminders.
